Born the son of the French aristocrat, Régis de Bouvier de Cachard born in Paris at the age of 11 won a drawing competition for the Parisian newspaper Aujourd Hui. He was immediately enrolled in the Ecole Boulle, where his tutor Regis engraved like Rembrandt. He worked in Haute Couture designing patterns on silk but made the sudden decision to go to Venice to paint. He became an immediate success and he soon came to the attention of American art dealers Sol Saperstein in New York and and Martin Lowitz in Los Angeles. From there his work caught the eye of the “Rat Pack,” including Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Peter Lawford.
He also sold paintings to the Duke of Bedford, Lord Charles and Lady Phillipa Chelsea, Lady Primrose Cadogan, and others in the aristocratic society set. This work is one of de Cachard’s finest in his Venice series, at once abstract and brilliantly capturing the lagoons in the grays of winter.
In near-fine condition with some bumps to the corners of the custom-made frame. Includes a plaque with the artist’s name.
